Exile Tibetans brace up for the ‘Tibetan People’s Solidarity Campaign’
New Delhi, January 28: India’s capital Delhi wears a hurried look- the Tibetan hamlets in the city have an overwhelmingly great number of Tibetan people who have converged from India, Nepal and Bhutan for the ‘Tibetan People’s Solidarity Campaign.’ Jointly organized by the Kashag and the Tibetan Parliament in Exile, this 4-day Mass Campaign- January 30 to February 4, in conformity with the resolutions arrived at during the ‘2nd Special meeting of Exile Tibetans’ convened under the Article 59 of the Tibetan charter, aims to express sublime solidarity with the supreme sacrifices of the Tibetans inside Tibet while calling for urgent diplomatic intervention to end the crisis inside Tibet.
This massive campaign expects to draw more than 5000 Tibetans from more than 50 different settlements and over 1500 Indian supporters is manned by 8 committees comprising of 139 people: an organizing committee (TPIE Speaker Penpa Tsering, Deputy Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel, Kalon for Religion, Pema Choejor, Kalon for Health, Tsering Wangchuk, Kalon for Home, Gyari Dolma, Chithue Karma Chopel, Chithue Karma Yeshi and Chithue Jamyang Soepa) and 7 sub-committees (Media, Public Mobilization, Inviting Indian Leaders, Logistics, Venue: Water and Refreshments, and Health, Embassy Meetings Delelgation, Majnukatille Wlefare and Security Incharge).
The days in the lead up to ear witness to a confluence of Tibetans-from all age groups and different backgrounds who have merged to partake in the solidarity campaign. Today, at 11 am, the organizing committee members held a ‘General meeting’ at the Tibetan Samyeling settlement office during which various aspects of the 4-day campaign were discussed. At 3 pm, the organizing committee members led an orientation program for the settlement officers and regional leaders at the TCV Day School. The leaders were apprised of the ground rules and the safety and security measures that need attention to ensure the successful implementation of the 4-day program.
